The Day of the Sea

A pleasant day for the whole family.

An exciting day for children and adults with the sea as the focal point.

A detailed program will follow as we approach Pentecost.

During Pentecost, it is tradition for pleasure boaters from Sæby and Frederikshavn to gather on Læsø and contribute to forming a splendid framework for Sea Day - our festive event at Vesterø Harbor, where we focus on the sea, the harbor, and fishing. The whole event is spiced up with good food, fun activities, exciting stories, sales stalls, crafts, and musical entertainment.

The island's restaurants have food stalls at the harbor, selling various delicious seafood dishes, and there are sales of beer and wine, coffee, and cake.

Here is a selection of activities in 2024: Henning demonstrates how to make washers for a seaweed roof, and perhaps one can also make a skipping rope! Astrid manages the popular booth about fish and shellfish, and she tells many worthwhile things to know.

Step aboard a fishing cutter and hear a fisherman tell about life at sea and see how to mend nets. Læsø Fishing Industry will talk about lobster fishing, and the Rescue Station from Østerby will be at the harbor. There will be stories about diving and strandings around Læsø, and a diver will show his equipment and dive in the harbor.

There will be activities and workshops for children. At the slipway, children can make a crab fishing rod, and together we will enjoy catching crabs - adults are welcome to join in too.

The final program will be ready by the end of April.

Of course, beer and wine, as well as coffee and cake, can be purchased.
