Shelters Hvidebakker Læsø

At the end of the lovely road called Himmerigvejen, at the edge of the forest, is a nature campsite with two new shelters - they are not bookable. There is a campfire site, and the car park by the beach has toilets and water - although it is closed off during the off-season. From the campsite it is about 5 kilometres to Østerby and 10 kilometres to Vesterø.

In the north-eastern corner of Læsø Klitplantation are two shelters at the Danish Nature Agency's primitive campsite at Hvidebakker. The campsite is located on the edge of the forest, approximately 300 metres from the lovely sandy beach at Hvidebakker, and offers plenty of beautiful nature with coniferous forest, lichen, heathland, high dunes, good hiking trails and of course the beach close by.

Close to Østerby

The shelters at Hvidebakker are located approximately 5 km from Østerby, where you can stock up at the local supermarket and fishmonger, and where there are also good places to eat - and a stop for the free bus 840, which goes directly from the ferry's arrival in Vesterø Harbour.

Find your way to the shelters at Hvidebakker

The shelters at Hvidebakker can be reached in many ways...
By car, you can drive along Himmerigvejen to the car park at Hvidebakker, then walk the 300 metres back and enter the forest road by the Nature Agency's pole with the pictograms.
By bike, it is possible to come from the west along the gravel roads in Klitplantagen and then Himmerigvejen.
On foot, you can come from the west via the path or the beach, and from the east via the beach from Østerby.
The two shelters are naturally located on the popular hiking route between Vesterø and Østerby, which is also part of Læsø Ø-Camino.

Nice location

The Danish Nature Agency's two shelters at Hvidebakker are located on the edge of the dune plantation, inside the forest, surrounded by conifers, and close to heathland, dunes and a sandy beach to the north. In season, the area is also close to several of Læsø's well-known and secret mushroom spots. The site is located approximately 100 metres from Himmerigvejen.

Toilet and water close by - only open in season

There is no water and toilet at the shelters themselves, but during the season the toilet building at the car park at Hvidebakker is open - however, it is closed due to frost from around October.

Beautiful area

The shelters are located in one of Læsø's beautiful nature areas, and as part of Læsø Dune Plantation. It is sensitive nature with both lichen and heaths, and a rich wildlife, and all users are recommended to respect nature.
The area also offers great opportunities for great nature experiences: there is a rich bird life, and there are excellent opportunities for anglers and UV hunters to hook something.
