Læsø for kids
A small piece of advice: Allow for plenty of time!
Læsø is a natural beach paradise, entertainment centre and playground, which continuously shows you how enjoyable the simple things in the company of kids can be: An autumn walk to Skovhytten, an amber hunt along the beach, mushroom foraging in the forest, a trip on horseback across Rønnerne, a summer trip to Stokken or a spring walk to the newest ice cream shop.
Let’s face it: Læsø does not offer any wild entertainment establishments. No amusement parks. No water slide. And only one cinema (but with popcorn and candy available!). Regardless, Læsø does have a couple of attractions, which are worth a visit and a revisit. And there are children’s menus at restaurants, toppings for your ice cream, local strawberry stalls and homemade fish 'n' chips from the fish monger, and much much more.
So, bring the kids with you to Læsø, and allow them to enjoy many unforgettable places with you! (by Tom Andersson)

Storhaven
Storhaven is a must visit. Læsø offers many other great places to visit with children, but Storhaven is a children's paradise. With a farmers shop, home-made food and ice cream, a ropeway, trampoline, rabbits, kittens, pigs, goats, ponies and donkeys, chicken, ducks and geese - and entrance fee to the whole menagerie only costs 20 kr. Storhaven is undoubtedly one of Læsø's biggest attractions where time seems to slow down.

Troldestien (the Troll Trail)
Læsø Saltworks
75% of all visitors to Læsø stop by the Læsø Saltworks - and with good reason. This is a unique place. And for children too, who will easily be captivated by the exciting history of salt making from medieval times to the present. Here, children can make their own salt, visit the observation tower, try out the playground or eat pancakes, while the quiet bustle and the smell of bonfire envelops them.

Beaches and crab fishing
Læsø is blessed with long and child-friendly beaches. One of the most popular ones is located right next to the ferry: Kongestranden. You can see this beach right as you leave the ferry in Vesterø, stretching kilometres down the western coast of Læsø. This beach is for children of all ages, where you almost have to walk halfway to Jutland before reaching deeper water.
On both harbours on Læsø, you can find fish mongers and fish cutters, crab fishing (borrow a bucket and a fishing rod from the tourist office in Vesterø), restaurants, playgrounds, sailing boats and plenty of fish cakes and ice cream.

Børnenes Læsøhistorier
Author and journalist Lasse Mors has written five great bedtime stories about life on Læsø in the oldern days.
Læsø's cultural history includes many fascinating tales, and this book translates them into a format children can enjoy.
Lasse himself often visits Læsø, and has held storytelling events, where he reads stories from the book at the library and on the Læsø ferry - always to the great enjoyment of the audience. The book is richly illustrated, with pictures drawn by the artist Christine Bilde from Jutland.
You can purchase Børnenes Læsøhistorier (Danish) at the tourist office in Vesterø.

Café Buch (formerly Antik & Retro)
Café Buch is a great place for the whole family to spend several hours of fun together. Here you'll find minigolf, swings, trampolines, fun outdoor games and cute animals. In the cozy café - which is the former stable building - you can enjoy a homemade burger, made from local Galloway beef, or fries and fish from the sea surrounding Læsø. Café Buch also sells Danish ice cream from Aabybro dairy and coffee from an Italien espresso machine.

Læsø Camping's new playground
Læsø Camping has established a shiny, new playground - funded by Isabella-fonden - as an addition to the big jumping pillow on the camping grounds.
And the playground is open for EVERYONE - even those who are not staying at the camping site.
Other great activities for the children
Besides the above mentioned activities you can go horseback riding on Icelandic horses, rent bicycles, go on a trip with the Rønnerbus, go fishing in the lake or ocean, make dinner over a campfire in the woods and much more.
Hiking on Nisseruten (the gnome trail)
According to myths, between the trees and grassy dunes in Højsande, you can encounter gnolls and gnomes. In the past, many people believed such creatures existed on Læsø, but today, it is mostly kids who can see and hear them. "Nisseruten" (the gnome trail) is a 3.2 km route through varied terrain, and a fun trail with little hills, trees great for climbing, knowledge and imagination.
Below, you can find the route with accompanying stories and tales (in Danish), and activities to ensure a great hike for children and adults.
